Vegetables makes a significant difference to smallholder livelihoods. Vegetable production needs only a small area of land, with minimal capital outlay and can provide access to a valuable food under subsistence conditions, but also has the potential to provide an initial step towards establishing an income base for poorer households.

2367 new farmers have switched from cultivation of single crop to vegetable cultivation. This in turn generated additional income of Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000 for the farmers and has an overall positive effect on local communities.
